Farming couple Greg and Nadine Moxey from Forbes in News South Wales estimate they saved more than $100,000 by owner building their own Paal kit home.

Greg did nearly all the work himself, employing tradespeople only where they were essential. Nadine was pregnant at the time and helped Greg with the finishing touches.
Contractors they employed included bricklayers, a plasterer, a painter for the interior and essential tradespeople such as an electrician and plumber.
Greg and Nadine’s home is the spacious four bedroom country-style Riverina, which they modified to enlarge the kitchen, extend and deepen the verandah, and add a rear Alfresco style open atrium.
The exterior is finished in composite sandstone with a Wilderness Green Colorbond roof.
The couple looked at all the kit homes on the market, including a visit to Paal’s headquarters at Emu Plains, where they fell in love with the houses on display. They also drove down to Young to inspect a Paal kit home built there.

“We were working to a budget. With Greg devoting time to the house as his farm work allowed, we were able to save a huge amount,” Nadine said.
“Greg had never built a house before, only things on the farm. But he followed the manual methodically and the house came together very well. And with the savings we made.
An Open House held upon completion saw nearly 50 families visiting the Moxey home to walk through and inspect it for themselves.
“People who come to see our finished home think it’s magnificent. They think Greg did a wonderful job,” Nadine said.
“We love our new home - and would definitely recommend 'the Paal way' to build to other people.”
