Couple create the best of country living

Ken and Jenny Hill had owned a large home in Sydney and wanted the same kind of quality and space when they moved to Greenwich Park, just north of Marulan, on the edge of the NSW Southern Highlands.

Their plan paid off magnificently with their new Paal home that sits on a prominent ridge on 30 acres that is part of the historic Greenwich Park Estate.

Ken recently retired from a senior executive position with Lend Lease with global responsibilities for human resources. Jenny works as a museum guide with Historic Houses Trust NSW.

While retaining a town house in the city, the Hills have now opted for the country life. They intend to graze a few cattle and develop a garden of trees, shrubs and vegetables equal to the one they previously enjoyed, but with plants suited to the higher altitude and drier conditions of their new property.

Jenny and Ken chose to buy from Paal Kit Homes because their package provided a simple solution that would enable the home to be constructed without problems.

“I think the house is wonderful. We’re very pleased,” Jenny said.

The Derwent design chosen by the Hills is spacious and light-filled, with plenty of room to move. The couple extended the verandahs and fitted additional French doors off the dining room to take full advantage of the stunning country views in all directions.

A recent Open House saw about 40 couples inspecting the nearly completed residence. Visitors were impressed by the open-plan spaciousness of the home and the quality of its finishes.
