Bushfire loss... an opportunity for a new start

"We're loving it. It's great. A lovely home in a bushy setting," Vickii said Losing their home to bushfire was devastating for Vickii and Danny Lett of Kurrajong in the lower Blue Mountains, but they picked themselves up and built a new Paal kit home.

They chose the Elizabeth model to replace the ranch style home they had lost. "We liked Paal's designs in preference to the project homes we looked at," Vickii explained.

The couple favoured a steel framed kit home not so much for its fireproof qualities as for protection from white ants, very prevalent in the area. "We didn't want to have to spread poison around in the ground," she said.

"We worked through the manual and also used Paal's advisory service, which made the job a lot easier. Paal were excellent - really efficient and easy to get along with."

Danny and Vickii's new home was finished off for them by Channel Nine's Renovation Rescue team, representing the TV channel's lifestyle programs.

In just three days of intensive work, the home was lined, carpeted, decorated, furnished and landscaped while the couple were enjoying a surprise holiday on the Sunshine Coast. They and their children were able to move into the completed home nearly two months earlier than expected.
