"Customers are often in the dark as to what owner-building is about. We help them fill in the parts of the puzzle," said housing consultant Michael Christie, who has been with Paal in Sydney for 20 years.
"We'll make recommendations on your budget and give accurate estimates for the building work that you choose not to do yourself. Where needed, we can link
you up with reputable tradespeople, including concreters, roofers, plumbers and electricians - or even introduce you to builders from our network.
"We'll also give you unbiased advice on matters such as the best cladding for your home, or whether it should sit on bearers and joists or a concrete slab.
"For example, many people think bearers and joists will save them money. But a slab will work out cheaper for a brick veneer home and will also give better thermal efficiency if you're in a cold climate.
"Knowing the answers to these questions will ensure that your home building project gets off to the best possible start and delivers the right result in terms of satisfaction and cost effectiveness," Michael said.
Housing consultant Doug Young also brings to the job a great depth of knowledge, acquired during 16 years with Paal.

"We can come out to your building site and give personalised advice on where to place your house in order to make the most of land contours, to maximise views, accommodate the prevailing winds, provide the best drainage, minimise any fire danger, and gain the benefit of winter sun," he said.
"We'll advise on trades costs and how much you can save by contributing your own time and effort."
